About me
Hello!
I'm Amya (ah-mee-ya) Miller.
This website is for me to advertise my books. I’m including a blog written in English and Japanese, and I’ll also have a link to my podcast in Japanese.
Aging is glorious. I’m blunt and perfectly capable of tact. I’m strong-willed but will admit when I’m wrong. Aging has made it easier to put myself out there; I’m going all in.
We need to be able to have discussions on complicated subjects. I don’t have answers; I do have a lot of opinions. It’s time that we make the room to talk about difficult and controversial topics.
Lastly, and I don’t know who needs to hear this but it’s been on my mind lately so I’m putting it out there: Not all white women who speak their minds are Karens. Can we coin a term for old women who speak their minds with tact and dignity?
Maybe I’ll coin that term.
We live in complicated times. If we don’t talk, we’re going to align ourselves with only those who agree with us. Certainly, some issues are deeply personal. I’ll try to write rationally and calmly. Let’s talk. It’s time.
Here are some things about me that might interest you:
- I write in English and Japanese; I'm opinionated; I'm working on being less pessimistic, and more optimistic; I think I'm hilarious, but few seem to notice; I have a relatively new ADHD diagnosis; I'm trying.
- I'm also a Caucasian American woman, born in Japan and raised in Japan. I've spent 30 years in Japan, and as I write this today, 27 years in the US. I speak, read, and write Japanese at a native-level of fluency.
- I'm a TCK (Third Culture Kid) which explains a lot about me.
- I'm a keen gardener. I love black and white photography. I'm an excellent baker. Airplanes and libraries are my happy places.
- I live in Seattle, Washington (USA) with my husband and cat.
